Frequently asked questions

Is Personal really free forever?

Yes. Your local Nexus is free with no strings attached. It runs on your hardware, uses your models (via BYOH), and doesn't require an account. One People Core is open source — our mission is access, not extraction.

What's the difference between Beacons and Pylons?

Beacons are your personal devices — phone, tablet, laptop — connected to your Nexus. They're included with every tier. Pylons are fixed, org-owned installations like kiosks and intercoms, available exclusively in Expansas Business.

Can I switch between Local and Cloud?

Yes. Your Nexus is portable. Start local, migrate to cloud when you want always-on access. Your data, settings, and AI preferences come with you.

What is BYOK / BYOH / BYOC?

Bring Your Own Key (use your own API keys), Bring Your Own Harness (connect Ollama, LM Studio, vLLM), and Bring Your Own CLI (integrate Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI). All three are available on every tier.

Is Expansas Cloud HIPAA compliant?

Yes. Expansas Cloud and Expansas Business both run on SOC 2 Type II certified, HIPAA compliant infrastructure. Business tier includes a BAA (Business Associate Agreement).

Do you train on my data?

Never. One People is open source with no advertising model and no data monetization. Your Nexus encrypts your data and we have no access to it — by architecture, not just policy. Expansas operates the paid services but follows the same privacy-first design.
